Furniture Solid Wood
Why use solid bedroom furniture?
It might appear that no matter what reasons are given, for and against the purchase of solid bedroom furniture the final choice is ultimately subject to the heart ruling the head. The green environmental arguments that abound, condemning the deforestation of tropical forests and habitats to provide solid wood furniture mainly for export to the West would historically discount any thought of using solid wood to furnish a bedroom. However in the recent past this moral stance has been eroded with the appearance of new sustainability programmes that can justify using solid woods in the manufacture of all types of furniture. With charities like TFT (Tropical Forest Trust) under whose auspices forest conservation is possible through sustainable management, production of solid wood furniture is becoming acceptable as non-threatening to the eco-systems and environmental habitats. Once the moral issue of conservation and sustainability is resolved we are free to choose solid bedroom furniture from a normal, personal perspective. We might ask ourselves what are the attractions of woods such as teak, mahogany, solid oak, leather, acacia, walnut, pine, painted furniture, etc? There are a number of considerations, for example, origins of the wood, manufacturing quality, durability, aesthetics, finish and furnishings (handles hinges etc) in actual fact the customer will opt for items that have an immediate positive visual impact and which will add decorative as well as practical value to the bedroom. From a customer point of view the choice of solid bedroom furniture will depend on the size of the bedroom and the size of furniture best suited to furnish that space. Once this issue is resolved then type of wood, functionality, manufactured quality, styling, staining finish and furnishings can all be considered. What are the benefits or attractions of solid bedroom furniture? Solid woods are renowned for their durability - they will take a lot of wear and tear and basically last a lifetime. In a family environment this can be a big factor in choosing furniture. Generally solid wood jointing is normally very professional with detailed dovetail joints etc. the furnishings have to be equally good so wardrobe doors open and close with ease and drawers glide effortlessly. Aesthetically the overall look is very pleasing and attractive again depending on personal choice of particular solid wood and wood finish - stain colour (matt, gloss or egg shell finish). Solid wood lends itself to ornate detail sculpted in the wood and various stylised designs and looks are available to the purchaser. You normally find that solid wood furniture enhances the look of any bedroom and creates an exotic feel of foreign richness. It adds comfort and style to the home and sits well in classic or contemporary interiors offering elegant modern curves, strong lines and generous proportions. It exudes class and sophistication. There are many ranges of solid bedroom furniture for sale on line so check out the Internet and find what you want.

Anyone buy their baby furniture from USA Baby?
I've been looking around for a nice but good priced dresser for baby's room. I've found lots of stuff but the price doesn't seem to fit the quality.
USA Baby has nice furniture but the prices are a little high. Is there furniture solid wood? And is it really worth the price?

What are your recommendations for high quality CHILDREN'S furniture at reasonable prices?
I love the Pottery Barn look, but I question the quality of the merchandise. I am looking to buy new furniture for my 3 year-old daughter to last her through high school (and beyond!). Vermont Tubbs seems to make excellent quality furniture (solid wood, mortise-tenon construction, wood-on-wood glides), but the designs are a bit plain! Ethan Allen Kids is also nice, but the selection is limited. Any recommendations? I realize you don't get quality merchandise at Target prices, but I'd appreciate recommendations for sub-Pottery Barn prices. Thank you!

Is there a list of wholesale distributors for materials?
I have just started my business and am having the hardest time finding suppliers. I need materials such as solid wood of any form, sheets of solid wood, unfinished furniture, solid wood craft supplies, anything solid wood unfinished. I also need things like beads, wood beads, glass beads, seed beads, etc. And plain glass blank christmas ornaments. I want to be able to paint, dye, or stain these items. All I seem to find is the finished products. Any help would be great. I have been researching this for two months and have gotten no where! Thanks!

Curtains for the walls, what comes to mind?
Greetings all just a quick question here. The colors in my livingroom are :
Walls are a blank canvas but I'm leaning toward Navy blue.
White trim
Burgundy couch
I'm not yet sure what I want to use as an accent color on the black pieces of wood furniture (solid wood - very slight distress marks). I'm thinking white with gold trim, or just white. Anyway, I'm basically not sure what to do with curtains. I'm quite sure I want to go with a solid white, not very sheer, maybe 85% opacity. I'm open to it being a paneled curtain as my lady and I can both do this, and I'm even ok with a slight floral pattern as long as it's a complimentary color. I'm really open to all sorts of color, white is just where I'm leaning at the moment. What do you think? Additional info, I'm don't like country florals, I'm not into ornate traditional patterns. Styles I do like, colonial bay, small hints of asian which is seen in my furniture (I like korean and japanese colors - I'm korean), and earthy - seen in my choice of accents.
If you don't like navy blue, the other color I'm considering is an 18% gray, I know how to accessorize and to pick out art to go with a look. I even know what curtain rods and lighting fixtures to pick, but whether navy blue or 18% gray, I'm not sure what to do with curtains. Thanks for the responses!
I'm a 27 y/o guy that wants some color and is having trouble with curtains, surely someone has an experienced eye out there.
Thanks for the pointing out the theme Nicole. Accessories and little doohickies here and there won't really hide the fact that this has a very strong patriotic tone, even if the colors are subdued. Man, I'm pretty color literate but this never even crossed my mind. Thanks a bunch, definitely going to have a talk with the lady tonight to sway her away from the theme. I don't mind patriotic mind you, and if I lived in the New England area, or even down south I might consider it, but eh I show my patriotism through serving in the military, and the flag on my porch :D I'll save the red/white/blue theme till I'm in my 70s.
Thanks for that link too mtnglo, I had to format my computer a few months back and couldn't remember what the site was. It's a great tool to keep in my basket!
