I applied BEHR Premium Transparent Deck, Fence & Siding Weatherproofing Wood Finish on my 4 ~ 5 years old fence about 1 month ago. Now I notice there are many boards that warped.
Before the finish, the fence was ok with slight cracks and no excessively noticeable warping. I applied the finish because the fence was losing the nice color. Now the wood color is very nice, but several panels have noticeable warping that actually make the fence looks broken. What went wrong? Am I better off not applying water sealer? Thanks in advance

I applied the sealer to the entire fence (both sides) in one application in a sunny day.

If you had only applied it to one side only, I might have an answer. Based on your information regarding age, I find it perplexing too.

- apply the sealer to both sides during application, if it's all on one side in the sun, it will warp33% 1 Vote
- It could a case of wood kilning or drying as the moisture trapped in the wood dried and shrink into deformed shape. The sealer had effectively prevent moisture from been adsorbed into the wood and the existing mosture in the wood has dried off causing shrinkage and warpping.
Add: Let the fence airs in dry weather for few days to kiln or do not apply sealer within a few days after rain or wet.0% 0 Votes
