Wood Panels

Home Sweet Creative Home In Wood Paneling

Wood paneling is a wall constructed from rigid or semi-rigid components, which are traditionally interlocking wood but it, could be also plastic or other materials.

Wood paneling is used in architecture and design, ornamental treatment of the walls, ceilings, doors, and furnishings that consist of a sequence of broad, thin sheets called panels that were framed together by smaller, thicker strips of wood. It was developed in antiquity to make rooms in stone buildings to look more comfortable. The panels work to insulate the room from the cold stone.

In modern buildings, it is installed for decorative purposes. Wood paneling such as wainscoting and boiserie in particular, may be extremely ornate and is particularly associated with 17th and 18th century interior design, Victorian architecture in Britain and its international contemporaries. Wainscot is a paneling design used to the lower 900mm to 1500mm of an interior wall, underneath the decorative rail on the wall or chair and above the skirting board or baseboard.

This style is traditionally created from tongue and groove boards though bead board or decorative panel such as wooden door might have is also common. Wainscot is also referring to other materials used in similar fashion. Its original purpose was to cover the lower parts of the walls in which in houses constructed with poor or nonexistent damp proof courses are often affected by rising dampness but now it general purpose is for decorative use. Boiserie is the term used to define ornate and intricately carved wood paneling.

Some early examples of boiserie were unpainted but later the raised moldings were painted or gilded. Boiserie is popular during the 17th and 18th century French interior design and Palace of Versailles has many fine examples. Wood panels were not just confined to the walls of the room but were also used to decorate doors, frames, cupboards and shelves. Wood paneling has been popular for hundreds of years ago and indeed it a natural wood adds warmth and elegance but the only way the craftsmen of earlier were able to apply wood paneling was in frames or what they called wainscoting.

Now, wood paneling became so popular that it is used in homes everywhere, in the kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom. Today, wood paneling in homes have a lighter and sleeker look. Those people who buy or own older homes with dark paneled rooms may be faced with the decision of keeping the paneling as in, removing or changing it and the easiest and most cost effective way to change the look of a paneled room is to add color by painting the paneling.

The wood paneling is often passed over as a quality building material. The images of the inexpensive imitation composite paneling the gained fame and fortune during the last half of the 20th century tend to dominate not to knock the cheaper alternative. Wood paneling can be a wonderful and economic addition to any other living space but many homeowners fail to consider the higher end wood paneling options available to them.

From a dramatically crafted raised panel accents to knotty pine tongues and groove walls and ceilings wood panels can convert any home from ordinary to extraordinary overnight. In wood paneling, you have many options to choose from that are available in the market today that will suits your tastes and budget. And if you are really fascinated in wood paneling, you can ask the help of an experience contractor, dealer or installer about what alternatives is best for you. And without a doubt, quality wood panels are one of the most beautiful and timeless investments you can make when it comes to enhancing the look and character of your home.

My horse was attacked by a cougar?
I have a TB. He is a flighty thing, but couldn't get away. My fencing is wood panels and barbed wire on the outside, so they horse can't touch it. But a cougar managed to get in and I heard lots of whinnying and snorting from my house, so I ran out with my rifle (I hunt) and managed to shoot the cougar in the side. I know I troll a lot, sorry, but this is serious and I'm scared for my horse. Its a deep, deep flesh wound on his rear end, and I don't know how to wrap it. I disinfected it and have been applying pressure with gauze, but its still bleeding enormously. What should I do? I called my vet, but he's nearly an hour away, and it raining pretty bad so I know it will take longer. Please help please. By the way, I'm doing this on my phone. I am still with my horse right now. He is laying down because his butt and leg are really mangled. Please give me advice. Should I make him stand up? Elaine, I could really care less about the cougar. I shot it while it was attacking my horse. I shot it again in the head and managed to lead my horse in the barn. I had a valid reason to shoot the cougar.

Home appraisal value with basement finish?
I am a mortgage underwriter, and have a couple questions for an appraiser. I want to refinance my home, but I pulled the comps and there weren't many in the value range I am hoping for. There are several which have 100-200 more above ground living space, with some varying finished basement square footage. Basement living space is common for the area. My basement is already divided into 4 rooms. One is an unfinished laundry with a stall shower. The other three rooms have concrete flooring, a mixture of drywall/wood paneling walls, and ceilings. One room could be a family room, one of the rooms has a closet, but no egress window, but I am assuming this won't make a huge difference since it can't be included in bedroom count regardless, so all I can really get is the below grade square footage. The fourth room is finished the same as the potential family room/room with closet, but it has the fuse box on the wall. If I finish this room as well, could it be included in the square footage as livable space? Planning on painting everything, adding flooring (carpet or laminate sub-floor), trim. Two of the three rooms in question have ceiling lighting, the third has wall sconce lighting. I just would like to get another opinion before I do all the work. I'd like to do a straight refinance versus the Home Affordable Refinance Program, because I have a purchase money second mortgage, which would be ineligible for modification. My only holdback on getting the refinance is what I think the value would be with the limited comps in the past 12 months. I'm an underwriter- not an appraiser. I don't know how to write an appraisal and necessarily know if they would consider a room with a fuse box on the wall living space or a utility room. Why do people on here answer questions rudely instead of being helpful?

Arkham City: Was this some sort of Easter Egg?
In the beginning of the game when Batman goes to the medical center. Behind the confessional where he does the wood paneling takedown, there's a guy on a stretcher with his head completely wrapped up. He's holding a container that said "Human organs" or something, and he's still alive. What's with that guy? It seems a little too detailed to be nothing, ya know? Was it supposed to be Hush? I've yet to read anything about this on any gaming site, easter egg related or not.

I just recently moved into a new house that has wood paneling in every room.?
I suffer from depression which gets much worse in the winter. The home I moved from had white walls so everything in my room was black and red however in this room it really looks like a dungeon. I have my desk and laptop in there and I do my hair and make-up in there also but it is just so dark that I can not stand it. The only lighting it has is a ceiling fan and that has the little fancy bulbs so gives off little light. So any suggestions? Do I paint it, and if I do what about the grooves in the paneling, do I wallpaper it and again what about the grooves....can anyone help me figure out how to bring light in? oh the windows also have the old fashioned aluminum awnings on them which i kinda like I thought about painting a scene on the inside of those to look at.
