Creating Beautiful Closets on a Budget

A nice, spacious home can still feel cramped if you don't have your closets in order. Many of us put off organizing our closets because we don't have the money to fix it up how we would like. Here are some budget friendly options for getting your closet beautifully organized. Shelving in your closet will add a lot of space. You don't have to spend a fortune to add storage shelves. Wire shelving is very easy to install, comes in multiple sizes, and it won't break the bank. It can hold boxes, blankets, sweaters, shoes, baskets and more. It can hold a considerable amount of weight if it is properly anchored into the studs of your closet. Another convenience of wire shelving is that you can buy standardized attachments for it, giving you hanging space for tote bags, sports equipment, robes and more. If wire shelves aren't your thing, you might like wood. Wood shelving doesn't have to be expensive, although it can be. Preassembled shelves normally cost more, but you can buy just the wood from your lumber and hardware store and save a bundle. We built 1'x1'x1' cubby shelves from the floor to the ceiling and only spent $50. They are sturdy, solid wood, and we stained them to match our furniture. Cubby shelves and corner shelves are so useful and take up such little space. If you don't have room in the front of your closet, try moving the hanging bar back a few inches until the clothes hangers are close to the wall. You can discover so much space just by thinking outside the box! Another inexpensive option is to add another hanging bar. Just move your current bar up as high as you can comfortably reach. Be sure to support the bar by anchoring it into a stud. If you don't have a stud in the right place, you can anchor a 1"x4" board into the studs around the area where you want your bar, and then attach the bar to your board. Most bars come with a bracket that hooks over the wood for added support. Do the same thing down below and you just doubled your hanging space. You may want to put a short bar on either side of the closet for items that hang down lower, like dresses and suits. With each bar costing under $10, this could be the most dramatic, cheapest change you've ever made to your closet. When you get the space, update your clothes hangers. Hangers can make or break a closet. You would be surprised how cheaply you can stock your closet with a sturdy wood hanger or coat hanger if you go directly to the supplier or manufacturer online. You can usually get discounts for buying in bulk. Enjoy your new, spacious, budget-friendly closet!

Can I break this rental agreement?
My landlord is a lazy asshole. There are many things wrong with this place. It has no kitchen, it's a total dump, things are not sanitary, there's rotting wood in the bathroom, a rusty space heater in the bathroom, unsafe conditions in the pretend kitchen (I can't reach back there to unplug or move anything because he has this wood shelf stuck to the wall), and he's charging me way too much. I want to leave. When I agreed to live here I signed a rental agreement where he just crossed off the rental agreement from the old tenant and added me on. It's an agreement for a whole year, but since this place is a shithole and it's not a real lease, can I leave without repercussions? thanks. I'm not worried, honey-- my credit is already shit, I'm declaring bankruptcy. And if he's sues me, he sure isn't going to get anything, I don't have it. The fact that there's no kitchen falls under something, I know it, and maybe it can declare the lease null and void. His last tenant didn't stay long, and I won't either. The chances of me being there next year are .00001 percent. I hate this place. A real lease states things about repairs. All this was was a piece of paper saying what was included and that I had to stay there a year. Nothing about repairs, nothing about anything, even stuff that clearly needed to be done. I'm getting a lawyer, calling tenant services and going to a housing inspector with 40 pictures I've taken of how disgusting this place is. I wonder what happened to compassion for another person. I am in a crisis right now and only two of you seem to understand that. Nope--there are a lot of problems that were not obvious to me when I signed the lease, and that he also failed to notify me about. That was his responsibility--to be upfront and honest with me about what the place was. He wasn't, and now he's going to lose a whole lot of money.

For people who use fleece instead of shavings and carefresh...I have a chinchilla-also does he pee 2 much?
I just switched about a week ago to fleece on the bottom of my chinchillas cage instead of shavings. Carefresh scares me because if they ingest it, it can cause blockage and be fatal, so I WILL NOT use that so don't suggest switching to it. I like the fleece a lot and have 6 peices so I'm not washing one at a time-instead 4 at a time because I'm trying to be a big enegy/water saver:) I've found that if I don't change it every other day, he starts peeing on his wood shelf instead of where he normally goes pee (I use 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water to wipe it up but it still soaks in:P)-his poops everywhere of course but I know thats normal:P How often do you change it though? He has a 24Lx24Wx36H inch cage, so I cut the peices to be about 30 inches to cover the sides to a bit, but that's not a small area (24"X 24" bottom). I will be adding on too soon so don't need those comments. I'm just curious how often you have to change your chin's fleece though-it isn't soaked when I change his or even wet, but it is a little damp in 3 of the corners (not enough to be a danger to his fur)-is he peeing too much though or should I be changing it everyday? He doesn't drink a lot-I think enough-and his poop isn't wet. Its easy enough to change so I may start doing it everyday anyway and I just bought a dust buster to clean up his poop off his wood shelves-it doesn't scare him, its cordless (dirt devil one from Walmart for about $18), and its sooo much easier than a big vacuum-I'm in love with the dust buster, lol:) You should get one-seriously!!! Just curious on how often you change your chins fleece though (or any animal) and if you think he may be peeing too much, though that's a hard question for you to answer, but answering the other question should give me a good idea of that. Thank you:) I know I'm a rambler-sorry-but any advice, help, or stories about the fleece you use for your animals would be greatly appreciated:)

I'm building some wood shelves for my pet rats...?
For these shelves (which are covered with waterproof non-toxic paint), I need to build supports. So, could you please list all of the NON-TOXIC chew proof materials out there that you can think of?
